Choosing a Laptop Workstation

Choosing a Laptop Workstation

Are you currently in the market for a laptop workstation?  Have you considered the features you’d like your laptop workstation to include?  If not, this article may be able to help get you thinking on the right track.  Here, to help you choose the perfect laptop workstation for your home or office, we will briefly define what a laptop workstation is and explore some of the features that are popular on some of the better laptop workstations on the market today.

What Is a Laptop Workstation?

The laptop computer has revolutionized the way we work, communicate and even recreate, largely because this device is small enough to be portable, yet large enough to handle the computing load we commonly ask of it.  Unfortunately, though, many people don’t always have the luxury of working solely from their “lap,” which is why a laptop workstation is such an important accessory.

A laptop workstation is a work area on which a laptop can be placed as well as a mouse and any other laptop accessories.  A laptop workstation, however, is not a desk (even though it acts as one) because it is usually very light weight and preferably mobile, allowing laptop users to take their workstations with them when traveling or doing business on the road.

Choosing a Laptop Workstation:  The Features

When picking out a laptop workstation for your home, business or both, there are several features to choose from.  Here are just a few things you should look for:

  • Space.  Most laptop workstations are small for portability reasons, but you want to make sure there is at least enough working space to accommodate your laptop and mouse comfortably.
  • Portability.  Many laptop workstations will fold up for easy carrying, while others merely have wheels which allow you to move the workstation from room to room.  Carefully consider how you plan to use your workstation before making a purchasing decision, and then seek one out that is ideal for your unique needs.
  • Adjustability.  A quality laptop workstation will usually have at least 3-4 pre-set positions, allowing you to adjust the workstation to accommodate different heights and positions.
  • Storage.  Keeping all of your accessories together can be a challenging job with some workstations.  Make sure that the laptop workstation you plan to purchase has enough room for all of your accessories.
  • Style.  Laptop workstations come in a variety of styles and colors, which usually makes it fairly easy to find one that suits your particular tastes.
  • Lamp.  Many workstations come complete with a built-in LED lamp, allowing you to conduct you business even in the darkest of environments.
  • Extra Features.  The list of extra features is endless when it comes to a laptop workstation.  These could include cup holders, pen and pencil holders, angled mouse pad and more.  Whatever it is you’re looking for, you can be pretty sure there’s a workstation that has it.

For a quality laptop workstation you can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 for a basic model, and up to $200 for a workstation with all the “bells and whistles.”
