Choosing the Perfect Bath Shower Screen

Choosing the Perfect Bath Shower Screen

Do you have a bath or shower that needs a barrier to prevent water from escaping? Are you sick and tired of bulky shower curtains that are impossible to keep clean? If so, you may want to consider an attractive bath shower screen.

The bathroom in your home is perhaps the most functional room of the house and it’s also one of the most visible. This can present a challenge for homeowners who want to both protect their bathroom from water damage while still making it presentable to guests who may visit. Shower curtains are one option that homeowners have, but these can look tacky and are hard to maneuver, usually providing only minimal water protection. They are also a cleaning nightmare and tend to get stained and mildewed over time. Fortunately, there’s another option in the form of a bath shower screen.

What is a Bath Shower Screen?

A bath shower screen is a protective barrier made of glass or hard plastic which attaches to the edge of your shower or bath, providing superior protection from shower spray, much as a curtain would. These screens are easy to install and can either be temporary and removable or permanently attached. They are much easier to clean than the standard shower curtain, and are generally more attractive and provide much more protection.

Types of Bath Shower Screens

There are many types of bath shower screens, and whatever your preference or protection needs may be, you’re sure to find one that’s perfect for your bathroom. Below is a description of two different types of bath shower screens, although many more are available:

Full Bath Enclosure

A full bath enclosure screen is a 4-wall barrier that fits around your entire tub or shower. Like a sliding shower door it protects your floor from shower spray, but this barrier totally encases your shower. This type of screen is perfect for free-standing tubs and showers which are not protected by 3 walls.

Full bath enclosure screens can either be temporary, with snaps that allow you to remove the barrier for easy cleaning, or attached permanently with a steel frame.

Frameless Over-Bath Screens

If you don’t want to mess with a heavy frame, frameless over-bath screens may be the answer. These are perfect for showers and tubs which are surrounded by three walls and, like the full bath enclosures, can be temporary or fixed with a steel hinge for easy opening and closing. They are generally more appealing than full bath enclosures as they are entirely frameless, while still providing the utmost in water protection.

Both the full bath enclosure and frameless over-bath shower screens are available in either scratch-resistant plastic or heavy-duty glass and each type comes in a variety of shapes, styles and designs, allowing you to choose the perfect screen to match your home décor. They are a bit more expensive than a traditional shower curtain, but with the time and money you’ll save from not having to constantly clean your floor and replace stained, smelly curtains, a bath shower screen may save you money in the long run.
