How to Eliminate Forehead Wrinkles

How to Eliminate Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles are the result of the many expressions we make using our eyebrows and other facial muscles throughout the course of our lives.  From frowning to surprise, many different facial expressions can create forehead wrinkles.  Over time, these wrinkles deepen and become more prominent, especially as we age.  Forehead wrinkles are a common problem, especially in the area between the eyebrows and across the center of the forehead.  Eliminating these wrinkles can be a bit of a challenge, but it is possible if you are willing to try some different options.

Preventing Forehead Wrinkles

The best way to be as free of forehead wrinkles as possible is with prevention.  Protect your skin from premature aging by using sunscreen every day.  If you choose a makeup with sunscreen built in this will be easier to do on a daily basis.  Moisturize the skin of your face early and often.  As you age, start using products that reflect your skin’s changing needs, and look for age defying ingredients that help to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place.

Of course, it is not possible to avoid forehead wrinkles entirely, unless you go through your entire life without ever making a facial expression that uses the forehead!  This means that eventually, you will turn to a treatment or procedure to reduce or eliminate forehead wrinkles when they have already formed.  There are a few options for this, from simple and affordable at home treatments, to much more invasive treatments performed by a doctor or skin care specialist.

Wrinkle Cream

The most common method of eliminating forehead wrinkles, as well as wrinkles all over the face, is to use a wrinkle cream.  The most common ingredient in these creams is retinol, which can help to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It is generally safe and is found in many over the counter wrinkle creams.  In some cases, it might cause some redness or irritation, but most people tolerate it well.  Retinol does have a proven track record of helping to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles, but it needs to be used regularly and in a strong enough form.

Chemical Peel

Another option for reducing forehead wrinkles is using a chemical peel.  This is usually done by a skin care specialist in a medical spa.  It removes the top few layers of skin, revealing fresher, newer skin beneath.  This can make forehead wrinkles appear less pronounced and far less visible.  Because the treatment can result in skin irritation, it is best done by a professional.  Results are generally temporary, but can be impressive.

Injections such as Botox are a popular way to get rid of deep forehead wrinkles.  This is done by a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon.  The injection plumps the skin and makes the wrinkle disappear.  The results usually last for a few months at a time and can be astonishing.  However, to maintain the look you will have to return for further injections as it does eventually wear off.  There are potential side effects to treatments like Botox, and you should discuss the use of this option very carefully with your doctor before proceeding.

Cosmetic Surgery

Finally, for those who want a permanent solution to forehead wrinkles, cosmetic surgery is the way to go.  A brow lift will stretch the skin and make the wrinkles disappear permanently.  This is of course a surgical procedure with all of the accompanying risks of surgery, including complications due to anesthesia or the surgery itself.  You should not undertake such a procedure without a full understanding of the possible risks.  Take the time to discuss it in great detail with your cosmetic surgeon before you make a final decision.

From at home treatment with wrinkle creams to the most radical option of having a forehead lift, there are plenty of ways to work at reducing or elimination forehead wrinkles.  If you simply aren’t the type to be willing to go under the knife to get rid of wrinkles, one of the simpler procedures is probably for you. If you want those forehead wrinkles gone at all costs, make an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss your options.  This is the best way to deal with those forehead wrinkles on a permanent basis.
