The Best Treatments for Lip Wrinkles

The Best Treatments for Lip Wrinkles

Lip wrinkles are caused by a variety of factors, including years of facial expressions, aging of the skin, sun damage and even smoking, which can cause a very specific pattern of lip wrinkles due to the formation of the lips around the cigarette.  And of course the smoke itself can contribute to aging your skin even more.  Getting rid of lip wrinkles once they have formed is really quite difficult since they are in a delicate place and can be hard to treat.

Preventing Lip Wrinkles

Prevention is the best way to deal with lip wrinkles, especially when you first start to see them forming.  Use a lip balm with an SPF in it to protect from sun damage.  You can also look for anti-aging lip balms that will help to reduce the signs of aging, such as lip wrinkles, even after they have started to form.  Moisturizing your lips and the skin around them will keep lip wrinkles from getting worse.

Treating Lip Wrinkles

Once you have developed deep lip wrinkles, a lip balm is unlikely to take care of the problem.  There are a few other treatment options you can look at for improving the appearance of the skin on and around your lips.  You can start by visiting a skin care specialist and having a microdermabrasion or chemical peel done.  Both are procedures designed to remove the outer layers of skin and reveal younger and healthier skin beneath.  They will definitely provide some improvement in the area of lip wrinkles, but it is not likely to last long and won’t work for very deep wrinkles.

If you have a serious lip wrinkle problem, you probably need to see a cosmetic surgeon to get the results that you are seeking.  There are a couple of options your cosmetic surgeon can offer you.  If your lip wrinkles are mostly around the lips, you can consider injections such as Botox or Juvederm, which plump up the skin and create a much smoother and more even appearance.  If the wrinkles that concern you are on the lips, a lip plumping injection such as collagen injections might be the choice for you.

Another option to get rid of lip wrinkles is to have laser surgery performed.  The newest lasers are quite successful in getting rid of difficult facial wrinkles, especially for areas such as lip wrinkles that can be difficult to treat by other means.  Laser surgery is of course an expensive and rather extreme choice, so you should discuss it fully with your cosmetic surgeon before you make a decision.

Lip wrinkles can be frustrating to deal with because they are in such a difficult place to treat with creams or other facial treatments.  If you really want to get rid of those annoying lip wrinkles, the best thing to do is arrange for a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon.  This way you can learn about all of your available options and gain a good understanding of the risks that are possible with any of the treatment options you are considering.
