The Truth About Acne Facials

The Truth About Acne Facials

Like any skin care procedure, acne facials have both pros and cons.  To decide whether they are the right choice for you, it is important to take the time to get to know what is involved.  Acne facials are intended to help you get rid of blemishes and improve the condition of your skin.  They are usually performed by a professional and go beyond the basic cleansing you can get from at home acne treatment products.

Acne facials can involve a series of steps, but usually at the very least include a careful and deep cleansing of the face, and the application of a specialized product often in the form of a mask.  These are performed by skilled and trained estheticians using spa quality products generally not available at your local drugstore.  How well acne facials will work really depends on a few basic factors, not the least of which being how severe your acne problem is.

Mild to moderate acne breakouts can often find some relief from acne facials, especially if they are done regularly.  Having a facial treatment done once a year is unlikely to make any big difference in your skin; it is the kind of treatment that requires regular care.  If you really want to see the best possible results from acne facials, you will have to have one done at least every few weeks, or as recommended by your skin care specialist.

If you have severe acne, it is unlikely that you will be able to find relief using acne facials.  The improvement is likely to be minimal and stronger treatments may be required to see any real clearing of the skin.  A good esthetician should be able to tell you honestly when acne facials are not right for you, and point you in the direction of a dermatologist.  Severe acne is best treated by prescription medication while under the care of a doctor.

If you see a good esthetician regularly and also follow an excellent skin care regimen at home, then you are likely to see some improvement from the facials.  It requires more than just one step to truly fight acne, so don’t think that all you have to do is visit the skin care specialist and then go about your business.  Instead you should be prepared to purchase some high quality acne fighting skin care products to use at home.

Acne facials can be pricey, and there is no point in paying that price if your acne can be cleared up just as easily, if not more so, with at home care.  If you aren’t seeing a big difference with regular acne facials, ask your esthetician if he or she can recommend some products for you to try at home instead.  A good skin care expert will care more about helping you clear up your skin than making money off acne facials and should provide honest answers.  Acne facials are great for some people but not useful for others; the best thing you can do is to make an appointment and find out what the expert thinks.
