The Truth About Liquid MSM

The Truth About Liquid MSM

Many drugs and supplements out there claim to help treat the symptoms of various ailments, but a new supplement on the market is showing the possibility of greatly reducing the effects of numerous ailments including Osteoarthritis, Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis, and even Snoring. While the true benefits of liquid Methylsulfonylmethane, or liquid MSM for short, are currently still being explored, there is mounting data that shows that there may be many medical benefits to taking liquid MSM as a supplement. Many doctors and patients can attest to its benefits and continue to urge for more study into the possible side effects and benefits that can be experienced by taking liquid MSM.

Liquid MSM, scientifically known as Methylsulfonylmethane, is administered as a dietary supplement that provides a natural source of sulfur. It is suggested that MSM is naturally derived from dietary sources, because MSM is found to be naturally present in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid. There are no daily values or suggested reference intakes that have been established for Sulfur or MSM, and the actual affects of the supplement are not well understood due to a lack of clinical trials and testing. Studies have been done which use liquid MSM to treat Osteoarthritis and Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis, as well as Interstitial Cystis. The reliability of these studies is questionable due to a number of factors including inexperience, lack of data, lack of supporting references, and studies not being preformed under blinded conditions. While this may discredit the findings of the study, they are not proof that the purported benefits are nonexistent.

On the contrary, despite a lack of scientifically respectable studies and resulting data, there are still a large number of doctors and patients who claim to have experienced notable benefits through the administering of liquid MSM. These benefits include but are not limited to improve the condition of joints, muscles, skin, hair, and nails. MSM is usually sold in purified forms, and is generally assimilated with purified water to help increase absorption and provide a convenient way of administering the supplement. Most brands suggest that you either take the supplement alone or that you add it to your favorite fruit juice. Recommended dosage ranges from around 1 teaspoon twice a day, to up to 2 or 3 tablespoons twice a day with a single teaspoon equaling about 390 milligrams of liquid MSM.

As with any dietary supplement or drug, there is always the risk of side-effects, whether any have been reported in studies or not. For this reason it is important that any liquid MSM be stored in a cool dry place and kept out of reach of children. While studies have not shown any adverse effects of liquid MSM in trial patients, that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. Thus, it is important to consult with your doctor before beginning a liquid MSM regimen, just like you would do with any other drug or dietary supplement. While little is known about the drug itself, your doctor will be able to identify if there is a risk of it mixing poorly with other medications you are taking, or to identify any other risk factors that you may need to take into consideration before starting to take liquid MSM.

While we all want to find a miracle drug that will cure our many ailments, from arthritis and muscle pains, to acne and snoring, it is important to go about addressing these issues in a safe way. Not enough reliable research has been done on liquid MSM to determine whether or not you will safely receive the benefits it’s manufacturers claim. However, if you have consulted with your doctor, taking liquid MSM under carefully monitored conditions just might be worth a try. Who knows? It could be the miracle you’ve been looking for.
