The History of USF Holland

The freight company, originally named simply Holland, took its name from the city of Holland, Michigan where it was founded. Initially created to serve the Midwestern states, the company has since expanded to both the Northeast and Southeast and now serves a total of twenty-one states as well as two Canadian provinces. USF Holland continued to grow as it was acquired by other large transportation companies. Eventually, two sister companies allowing USF Holland to count many other points across the US among its delivery destinations.

After over 45 years in the freight business, Holland was acquired by TNT Ltd. in 1985; TNT became USF in 1996, and the company name thus became USF Holland. In 2005, USF Holland became a part of YRC Regional Transportation when the company was acquired by YRC Worldwide. YRCW is among the largest transportation companies worldwide, and also counts Holland’s sister freight companies among its subsidiaries.

The company has received the LTL Quest for Quality award from Logistics Management magazine for 24 years running. They are the number one company for next-day service, with more next-day lanes than any other hauler in their service area. USF Holland provides full coverage regional delivery service to twelve states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North and South Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Additionally, they provide full regional service to the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada. Large markets are also served by the freight company in nine other states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and West Virginia.

In partnership with two sister companies, New Penn and Reddaway, USF Holland’s coverage area is expanded to the northeastern and western states respectively. Between their direct services and partnerships with sister companies, USF Holland is able to serve a large portion of the United States.

Thanks to a strong reputation in the industry, USF Holland is approaching the 100 year mark serving the LTL market in an ever-expanding list of regions across North America.
